What happens if I want to check out a bike for a long period of time?
We do allow bikes to be checked out for long periods of time If you are an annual member or have a monthly pass but we do not encourage it because we want the bikes to be available to everyone. If you fail to return the bike before your annual membership/monthly membership expires $1000 will be charged to your credit card on file.

If my bike is stolen while In my possession am I responsible for it?

Yes. If you fail to return the bike before your annual membership/monthly membership expires $1000 will be charged to your credit card on file. If you have rented the bike for a shorter period of time, for instance, a day pass then after that day has expired and the bike has not been returned we automatically charge you for the next day and so on. If the bike is not returned after a month $1000 will be charged to your credit card on file.

What should I do if a bike gets damaged while I have it checked out?
If possible, return a damaged bike to a station. If that is not possible, securely lock it and contact a Bike Detroit Team Member. Do not ride a bike with damage that affects its safety features.
You are financially liable for damages to bikes. Charges may vary.

Are the bike stations open all year?
We are still working on an idea to have the stations open all year long but as of now during some winter months, stations will be closed. You will be able to look on the website for those specific months since they may vary year to year.

What if a station is full and I need to find an empty dock to return a bike?

If there are no available docks at a station, you must locate a station with available docks and return the bike there. The kiosk located at each station show real-time information about which nearby stations have available docks. The kiosks at full stations will also add 15 free minutes to your ride so that you can take the bike to an open station without financial penalty.

How often is my credit card charged for bike fees?
For monthly members or less, a user’s credit card is charged once for the membership fee at the time of registration and then again ONLY IF any usage fees have accrued during the check out time.

For annual members, there will be an initial charge for the registration fee then once a month for membership fees. A final charge will be processed following the end of the membership period ONLY IF any usage fees have accrued during the check out times.
